Our fees for making or defending a claim for unfair or wrongful dismissal are in the region of:

  • Simple case: £6,000 to £10,000 (excluding VAT)
  • Complex case: £8,000 to £15,000 (excluding VAT)

These fees cover the items detailed above in the section detailing the Employment Tribunal service we offer.

Factors that could make a case more complex, include:

  • If it is necessary to make or defend an application to amend a claim or to provide further information about an existing claim.
  • Defending a claim that is brought by a litigant in person (a person or business that has the right to address a Court (rights of audience) and is not legally represented by a solicitor or barrister).
  • Making or defending a costs application.
  • Dealing with any preliminary issues, such as time limits or whether the claimant is/was an employee.
  • The number of witnesses and documents involved in the claim.

The fee guidelines detailed above do not apply to cases involving discrimination or protected disclosure (whistleblowing) allegations. Due to the complexities and additional work required in these cases, we will require some detailed information about the case before we can provide you with a quote for our fees.

In addition to our fees, there may be some disbursements. Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties, such as barrister fees. Barrister’s fees are estimated between £800 to £1,200, plus VAT, per day (depending on the experience of the barrister) for attending an employment tribunal hearing. There may also be further charges for preparation or a conference before the hearing.

Our fees for providing you with the Employment Tribunal Service are subject to VAT.
